I am trying to delete a backup I made of my hard drive and I am able to delete
everything but one file in the following path.
\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash8b.ocx When I try to delete the file I
get an Access Denied error message. I am using XPsp2 and logged in as
administrator. The back up is on a external hardrive and I have tried using
Safe Mode. Any ideas on how to get rid of this file. It is preventing me from
deleting the backup file.

I had the same problem, and an easy way to fix it is to cut/paste the
containing folder to your documents folder. Once there make the folder private
(you can't make the folder private from where it is), it will then be
associated only with your user account, and you will be able to delete it. Say
good-bye to the pest.

This may be a little late in coming, but this is what worked for me (I had the
exact same problem with Flash9b.ocx). I moved the flash folder to another
location on the same drive (I chose the desktop). I was able to delete the
folder once it was in a new location. I did not have to make it private. I did
not have to take ownership of it.
